Land a Job As An Insurance Broker in Asia

If you are one of the many that has fallen in love with Asia, then a move to Asia is not something that is impossible. All you need to do is find the right career for you. Thailand is arguably one of the best places to land a decent job and take advantage of the cheap cost of living while having all the amenities of home available to you. Other countries such as Singapore and Hong Kong may prove to a little too expensive initially for the large majority of people that want to relocate to the hot climates of Asia.

Insurance is big business in Asia and one profession that will always be booming is the car insurance trade. There are numerous vehicle insurance companies in the Kingdom and some of them offer jobs to foreigners in order to cater for their expat clientele.

In order to land one of these prestigious jobs, you will need to have some kind of experience working within finance, insurance, and even better still, working directly within the car insurance trade in your own country. For those that have skills in other trades, landing a job with a car insurance company still is out of your reach.

Car insurance companies in Asia and in Thailand still have plenty of other job opportunities available. They have sprawling IT departments, which we all know that IT departments are very diverse in nature. You could apply to become a security analyst, Java developer, IT network engineer, and so on. Most of the time you will need to look at which jobs the company has available rather than just applying blind – much the same approach as you would take in your own country.

From a financial perspective, you may be able to land a job as a risk appraiser, case specialist, and other jobs that involve assessing the level of cover a person can obtain.

Being able to speak some Thai would also be an advantage, but with many international insurance companies like Direct Asia, most people in the organisation speak English quite well. As a foreigner, you will most likely be dealing with expats that live in the country or tourists that are looking for temporary insurance while in the country. If you get a non-customer facing role, then the auto insurance company will be a large international company that caters for both English speaking and Thai local clientele.

The only other real difference working in a Thai insurance company compared to one back at home is the types of insurance that will be available to you. You will need to learn about type 1, type 2, and type 3 insurance levels. There are also different road and insurance laws in Thailand that you will need to learn. As you will probably be driving your own vehicle in Thailand, you will get to know the options available pretty quickly anyway.
